Is it the guitar or the amp thats screwed up?

One easy way to tell is just plug the lead into the amp, then tap the other end with the tip of your finger. If the amp responds, it's your guitar. Try different leads too, it could be that your guitar AND amp are both in fact fine, but your lead is shite.
